  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message BRAIN463 - Characteristic &1 is set to '&2'; PartProvider &3 returns just some data ?

The SAP error message BRAIN463 indicates that a characteristic in a query is set to a specific value, but the associated PartProvider is only returning partial data. This can occur in SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP BI (Business Intelligence) environments when there are issues with the data model, query design, or data availability.

    Cause:

    1. Data Availability: The characteristic specified in the error message may not have complete data available in the PartProvider. This could be due to data not being loaded or updated in the InfoProvider.
    2. Filter Settings: The query may have filters applied that restrict the data returned. If the characteristic is set to a specific value that does not match the available data, it will result in partial data being returned.
    3. Data Model Issues: There may be issues with the underlying data model, such as incorrect joins or relationships between InfoProviders.
    4. Authorization Issues: The user executing the query may not have the necessary authorizations to view all the data related to the characteristic.

    Solution:

    1. Check Data Load: Verify that the data load process has completed successfully and that the relevant data is available in the InfoProvider. You can do this by checking the data in the InfoProvider directly.
    2. Review Query Filters: Examine the query design to see if there are any filters applied to the characteristic that may be limiting the data returned. Adjust the filters as necessary.
    3. Analyze Data Model: Review the data model and ensure that the relationships between InfoProviders are correctly defined. Check for any inconsistencies or errors in the data model.
    4. Check Authorizations: Ensure that the user has the necessary authorizations to access the data related to the characteristic. This may involve checking roles and authorizations in the SAP system.
    5. Test with Different Values: Try running the query with different values for the characteristic to see if the issue persists. This can help identify if the problem is specific to a certain value.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Use transaction codes like RSA1 (Data Warehousing Workbench) to check data loads and InfoProviders.
    • Query Designer: Use the Query Designer to review and modify the query settings, including filters and characteristics.
    • Data Sources: Check the data sources and ensure that they are correctly configured and that data is being extracted as expected.
    • SAP Notes: Look for relevant SAP Notes that may address known issues related to this error message.

If the issue persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP BW/BI administrator or reach out to SAP support for further assistance.
