What causes this issue?

If you have executed this feature in the Q-system, ensure that you
execute re-indexing in the production system after the transport from
the Q-system (with the changed settings) reaches the production system.
If you try to search for materials in the production system without
executing this feature first, the system will display incomplete results
for the external representation of material number. Here, external
representation indicates that the conversion exit (MATN1) has been
processed on the MATNR field to store the output in the External
Representation of Material Number (MATNR_EXTERNAL) field.
Note that this scenario is valid only for the searches performed for
material numbers(external representation) on fiori UI or enterprise
search.
