  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message AP235 - Distribution to only one position - reassignment is not possible ?

The SAP error message AP235 ("Distribution to only one position - reassignment is not possible") typically occurs in the context of asset accounting when you are trying to reassign an asset that has been distributed to only one cost center or internal order. This error indicates that the system does not allow the reassignment of the asset because it is linked to a single distribution point.

    Cause:

    1. Single Distribution Point: The asset in question has been distributed to only one cost center or internal order, which means that the system cannot reassign it to another cost center or internal order.
    2. Configuration Settings: The configuration settings in the asset accounting module may restrict the reassignment of assets that are linked to a single distribution point.
    3. Transaction Type: The transaction type used for the reassignment may not allow for such changes if the asset is already fully allocated.

    Solution:

    1. Check Distribution: Verify the distribution of the asset. If it is indeed linked to only one cost center or internal order, consider whether it is necessary to reassign it. If not, you may need to leave it as is.
    2. Change Distribution: If you need to reassign the asset, you may first need to change its distribution to include multiple cost centers or internal orders. This can be done by adjusting the asset's allocation in the asset master record.
    3. Use Alternative Transactions: If the reassignment is not possible due to the current configuration, consider using alternative transactions that may allow for the desired changes, such as transferring the asset instead of reassigning it.
    4. Consult Configuration: If you have the necessary permissions, check the configuration settings in the asset accounting module to see if there are any restrictions that can be modified to allow for the reassignment.
    5. Contact SAP Support: If the issue persists and you cannot find a resolution, consider reaching out to SAP support for assistance. They may provide insights based on your specific system configuration.

    Related Information:

    • Asset Master Record: Review the asset master record to understand its current distribution and any related settings.
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as AS02 (Change Asset), AS03 (Display Asset), and ABUMN (Transfer within Company Code) that may help in managing asset assignments.
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help files for detailed information on asset accounting processes and restrictions related to asset reassignment.

By following these steps, you should be able to address the AP235 error and manage your asset assignments effectively.
