    to coding mask
    &v3&&v4&
However, these coding masks have different structures.

    How can this happen?

The following two coding masks have the same structure:
    -000-X.X.X
    /000.X-X-X
The following coding masks have different structures:

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message AO484 - Coding masks have different structures. Conversion not possible. ?

The SAP error message AO484, which states "Coding masks have different structures. Conversion not possible," typically occurs in the context of Asset Accounting (FI-AA) when there is an attempt to convert or transfer asset data between different coding masks that do not match in structure. This can happen during activities such as asset transfers, migrations, or when trying to perform mass changes.

    Cause:

    1. Different Coding Masks: The coding masks (or asset classes) involved in the transaction have different field structures. This means that the fields defined in one coding mask do not correspond to the fields in another.
    2. Configuration Issues: There may be inconsistencies in the configuration of asset classes or coding masks in the system.
    3. Data Migration: If you are migrating data from one system to another, the coding masks in the source and target systems may not align.

    Solution:

    1. Check Coding Masks: Review the coding masks for the asset classes involved in the transaction. Ensure that they have the same structure and that all required fields are present.
    2. Adjust Asset Classes: If necessary, modify the asset classes to ensure that they have compatible structures. This may involve adding or removing fields in the coding masks.
    3. Data Consistency: Ensure that the data being processed is consistent with the coding masks. This may involve cleaning up the data or adjusting it to fit the expected structure.
    4. Use Transaction Codes: Use transaction codes like OAOA (for asset class configuration) to review and adjust the coding masks.
    5. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or notes related to asset accounting and coding masks for specific guidance on resolving this issue.
    6. Testing: After making changes, perform tests to ensure that the error does not occur again.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as OAOA (Asset Class) and OAYZ (Define Coding Mask).
