What causes this issue?

If you want to use a characteristic that belongs to a compound of
several characteristics for generating segments, you also have to use
all associated higher-level characteristics. In this case, at least one
higher-level characteristic was not selected.

System Response

The higher-level characteristics are added and also used for generating
segments.

How to fix this error?

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
