What causes this issue?

Conversions (conversion of data, changes to the database table with the
exception of ADD FIELD) are not carried out directly by the activator,
but are flagged for background conversion (delayed conversion). A
separate program must be started to perform the conversion.
This is done for reasons of performance and because of the risk of DDL
locks on the tables to be converted as these prevent changes being made
to the database table.
The specified object was scheduled for background conversion.

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
