  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message AC_FAREA_FROM_COBL010 - Functional area &1 is different to &2 ?

The SAP error message AC_FAREA_FROM_COBL010 indicates that there is a mismatch between the functional area defined in the cost object (COBL) and the functional area expected in the asset accounting (FI-AA) module. Specifically, the message states that the functional area in the cost object does not match the functional area that is expected or defined in the asset master record.

    Cause:

    1. Mismatch in Functional Areas: The functional area assigned to the cost object (e.g., internal order, cost center) is different from the functional area assigned to the asset master record.
    2. Configuration Issues: There may be configuration issues in the system where the functional areas are not aligned properly between different modules (CO and FI).
    3. Data Entry Errors: Incorrect data entry when creating or modifying cost objects or asset master records can lead to this error.

    Solution:

    1. Check Functional Areas: Verify the functional area assigned to the cost object and the asset master record. Ensure that they match.

      • You can check the functional area in the asset master record using transaction code AS03 (Display Asset).
      • For cost objects, you can check using transaction codes like KO03 (Display Order) or KS03 (Display Cost Center).
    2. Update Functional Areas: If there is a mismatch, you may need to update the functional area in either the cost object or the asset master record to ensure they are consistent.

      • Use transaction code AS02 (Change Asset) to modify the asset master record if necessary.
      • Use transaction code KO02 (Change Order) or KS02 (Change Cost Center) to modify the cost object.
    3. Review Configuration: If the issue persists, review the configuration settings in the SAP system to ensure that the functional areas are set up correctly across the relevant modules (CO and FI).

      • Check the configuration for functional areas in the controlling area settings and ensure they are consistent with the financial accounting settings.
    4. Consult Documentation: If you are unsure about the changes, consult SAP documentation or reach out to your SAP support team for guidance.

    Related Information:

    • Functional Areas: Functional areas are used in SAP to categorize costs and revenues for reporting purposes. They are often used in conjunction with cost centers and internal orders.
    • Asset Accounting (FI-AA): This module manages fixed assets and their related transactions, including acquisition, depreciation, and retirement.
