AC479
- A real depreciation area is not allowed to become a derived area ?The SAP error message AC479, which states "A real depreciation area is not allowed to become a derived area," typically occurs in the context of asset accounting when there is an attempt to configure a real depreciation area as a derived area. In SAP, depreciation areas are used to manage different types of asset valuations, such as book depreciation, tax depreciation, and so on.
Cause:
- Configuration Issue: The error arises when the system is configured to treat a real depreciation area as a derived area. Real depreciation areas are used for actual financial reporting, while derived areas are typically used for reporting purposes and are calculated based on the values from real areas.
- Incorrect Settings: The settings in the asset accounting configuration may have been incorrectly defined, leading to this conflict.
Solution:
To resolve this error, you need to check and adjust the configuration settings in the Asset Accounting module:
Access Configuration:
- Go to the SAP Easy Access screen and navigate to the following path:
SPRO -> SAP Reference IMG -> Financial Accounting (New) -> Asset Accounting (New) -> Depreciation Areas -> Define Depreciation Areas
Check Depreciation Area Settings:
- Review the settings for the depreciation areas defined in your system.
- Ensure that the real depreciation areas are not marked as derived areas. Real depreciation areas should be set up to reflect actual values, while derived areas should be configured to derive values from real areas.
Adjust Configuration:
- If you find that a real depreciation area is incorrectly configured as a derived area, you will need to change its settings.
- Make sure that the real depreciation areas are set up correctly according to your business requirements.
Testing:
- After making the necessary changes, test the configuration by trying to execute the transaction that previously resulted in the error to ensure that the issue is resolved.
Related Information:
If you continue to experience issues or if the configuration is complex, it may be beneficial to consult with an SAP expert or your organization's SAP support team for assistance.
