  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message AC077 - For method 'D', dep. is not allowed after the end of planned life ?

The SAP error message AC077 typically occurs in the context of Asset Accounting (FI-AA) when you are trying to perform a transaction related to an asset that has reached the end of its planned life. The message indicates that the depreciation (dep.) for the asset is not allowed after the end of its planned life.

    Cause:

    1. End of Planned Life: The asset has reached its planned useful life, and any further depreciation postings are not allowed.
    2. Incorrect Configuration: The asset master data may not be configured correctly, leading to premature end-of-life settings.
    3. Posting Date: The posting date of the transaction may be beyond the planned life of the asset.

    Solution:

    1. Check Asset Master Data: Review the asset master data to confirm the planned life and ensure it is set correctly. You can do this by navigating to the asset master record (transaction code AS03).
    2. Review Depreciation Areas: Ensure that the depreciation areas are set up correctly and that the planned life is appropriate for the asset.
    3. Adjust Posting Date: If the posting date is beyond the planned life, consider adjusting the posting date to a valid period within the asset's useful life.
    4. Postings After End of Life: If you need to make adjustments or corrections after the end of the planned life, you may need to consider alternative methods, such as creating a new asset or adjusting the existing asset's useful life.
    5. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or consult with your SAP support team for specific guidelines on handling assets that have reached the end of their planned life.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as AS01 (Create Asset), AS02 (Change Asset), and AS03 (Display Asset).
    • Depreciation Calculation: Understand how depreciation is calculated in SAP and the implications of the asset's useful life on financial reporting.
    • Asset Retirement: If the asset is no longer in use, consider processing an asset retirement (transaction code ABAVN) to remove it from the books properly.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address specific issues or provide updates related to asset accounting.

If the issue persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to engage with your SAP support team or consult the SAP community for further assistance.
