  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message 6G113 - Configuration not saved; only temporary ?

The SAP error message 6G113 indicates that a configuration change was not saved permanently and is only temporary. This typically occurs in the context of customizing settings in SAP, particularly when working with configuration transactions.

    Cause:

The error message "Configuration not saved; only temporary" usually arises due to one of the following reasons:

    1. Missing Authorization: The user may not have the necessary authorizations to save changes to the configuration.
    2. Transport Request Issues: The changes may not be assigned to a transport request, which is necessary for saving configurations in a way that they can be transported to other systems.
    3. Session Timeout: If the session times out or if there is a disconnection during the configuration process, the changes may not be saved.
    4. System Settings: The system may be set up in a way that does not allow permanent changes to be saved in the current environment (e.g., in a development or testing environment).

    Solution:

To resolve the error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Check Authorizations: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to make and save configuration changes. You may need to contact your SAP security administrator to verify your roles and permissions.

    2. Assign to Transport Request: If you are making changes that need to be transported, ensure that you are working within a transport request. You can create a transport request and assign your changes to it before saving.

    3. Session Management: Make sure that your session is active and that you are not experiencing any connectivity issues. If you suspect a timeout, try logging in again and reapplying your changes.

    4. Consult with Basis Team: If the issue persists, consult with your SAP Basis team to check if there are any system settings or restrictions that might be preventing the saving of configurations.

    5. Use Correct Environment: Ensure that you are working in the correct environment (development, quality assurance, or production) and that you have the appropriate permissions for that environment.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as SPRO (SAP Project Reference Object) for configuration changes.
