  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

The lot-sizing procedure for the short-term period and the long-term
    period are not compatible.

    System Response

The lot size in the short-term period should always be more "exact"
than the lot size in the long-term period, that is, the lot size chosen
for the short-term period should provide small lots that cover the
requirements more precisely. For this reason different combinations are
    not allowed:
the lot-for-lot order quantity in the long-term period requires the
lot-for-lot order quantity in the short-term period
period lot sizes are only compatible if the period indicator of the
short-term lot size is smaller or equal to the long-term lot size. For
example, you can have a monthly lot size in the long-term period along
with a weekly lot size in the short-term period.
a daily lot size in the long-term period is not possible with an
optimum lot size in the short-term period.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message 61208 - Short and long-term lot-size indicator not compatible ?

The SAP error message 61208, which states "Short and long-term lot-size indicator not compatible," typically occurs in the context of material requirements planning (MRP) and inventory management. This error indicates that there is a mismatch between the short-term and long-term lot size settings for a material in the system.

    Cause:

    1. Lot Size Configuration: The error usually arises when the lot size settings for a material are not compatible. For example, if the short-term lot size is set to a specific value that does not align with the long-term lot size settings, the system will trigger this error.
    2. Material Master Data: The material master data may have inconsistent settings for lot sizes, leading to this incompatibility.
    3. MRP Type: The MRP type assigned to the material may not support the combination of short-term and long-term lot sizes being used.

    Solution:

    1. Check Material Master Data:

      • Go to the material master record (transaction code MM03) and check the lot size settings under the MRP view.
      • Ensure that the short-term and long-term lot size indicators are compatible. You may need to adjust one of them to resolve the conflict.
    2. Adjust Lot Size Settings:

      • If necessary, change the lot size settings to ensure they are compatible. This can be done in the material master record or in the relevant configuration settings.
      • You can also review the settings in the MRP area to ensure they align with the overall planning strategy.
    3. Review MRP Type:

      • Check the MRP type assigned to the material. If the MRP type does not support the desired lot size settings, consider changing it to a more appropriate type.
    4. Consult Documentation:

      • Review SAP documentation or help files related to lot size settings and MRP configuration for further guidance.
    5. Testing:

      • After making changes, run a test MRP run to ensure that the error no longer occurs and that the material is planned correctly.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:
      • MM03 (Display Material), MM02 (Change Material), MD01 (MRP Run).
    • MRP Types: Different MRP types (e.g., PD, VB, etc.) have different rules regarding lot sizes.
    • Lot Size Categories: Understand the different lot size categories (e.g., fixed lot size, lot-for-lot, etc.) and how they interact with each other.

If the issue persists after checking and adjusting the settings, it may be beneficial to consult with an SAP functional consultant or refer to SAP support for more in-depth troubleshooting.
