or the planning run is still locked due to a blocking entry from the
    previous planning run.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message 61134 - The planning run for plant & has already been started ?

The SAP error message 61134, which states "The planning run for plant & has already been started," typically occurs in the context of production planning or materials management when a planning run (such as MRP - Material Requirements Planning) is initiated for a specific plant that is already in the process of being executed.

    Cause:

    1. Concurrent Planning Runs: The most common cause of this error is that a planning run for the specified plant is already in progress. SAP does not allow multiple planning runs to be executed simultaneously for the same plant to prevent data inconsistencies.
    2. Long-Running Processes: If a previous planning run is taking longer than expected, it may still be active when a new planning run is attempted.
    3. System Locking: The system may have a lock on the planning run process, preventing new runs from being initiated until the current one is completed.

    Solution:

    1. Check Active Planning Runs: Use transaction codes like MD04 or MD05 to check if there are any active planning runs for the plant in question. You can also check the job overview using transaction SM37 to see if there are any jobs related to MRP that are still running.
    2. Wait for Completion: If a planning run is currently in progress, you may need to wait for it to complete before starting a new one.
    3. Terminate Long-Running Jobs: If you find that a planning run is stuck or taking too long, you may need to terminate it. This can be done through transaction SM37 by selecting the job and choosing to cancel it. Be cautious with this approach, as it may lead to data inconsistencies if not handled properly.
    4. Review Job Scheduling: If planning runs are frequently overlapping, consider reviewing the scheduling of these jobs to ensure they do not conflict with each other.
    5. System Monitoring: Implement monitoring tools or alerts to notify you when planning runs are taking longer than expected, allowing for proactive management.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as MD01 (MRP Run), MD04 (Stock/Requirements List), MD05 (MRP List), and SM37 (Job Monitoring).
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to this error message. Sometimes, specific versions of SAP may have bugs that are addressed in later updates.
    • Documentation: Review SAP documentation on MRP and planning runs to understand the best practices and configurations that can help avoid this issue in the future.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the error and prevent it from occurring in the future.
