    - The node child must not be a field value node.
    - The field value node is allowed no more than one node child if the
node child is of a decision operation, error operation, or subfeature
    access type.
    - A field value node for a main feature is also allowed no more than
one node child if the node child is of a program access type.

more than one node child if the node child is of the return value
    type.
    - Two node children are allowed if a node child contains a debugging
    operation.
    - If a main feature has table return, a maximum of 36 node children

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message 5P387 - E: Field value nodes must have dependent nodes ?

The SAP error message 5P387 E: Field value nodes must have dependent nodes typically occurs in the context of SAP's data modeling or configuration, particularly when dealing with hierarchical data structures or field value nodes in a configuration or master data setup.

    Cause:

This error indicates that there is a field value node that is expected to have dependent nodes, but it does not. In hierarchical structures, certain nodes are expected to have child nodes (dependent nodes) that provide additional detail or context. If a node is defined without any dependent nodes when it is required to have them, this error will be triggered.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check the Configuration: Review the configuration of the field value nodes in the relevant area (e.g., in the customizing settings). Ensure that the nodes are correctly defined and that any required dependent nodes are present.

    2. Add Dependent Nodes: If the field value node is supposed to have dependent nodes, you need to create and link these nodes. This may involve:

      • Creating new dependent nodes in the hierarchy.
      • Ensuring that the relationships between nodes are correctly defined.
    3. Review Documentation: Consult the SAP documentation or help resources related to the specific module or area you are working in. This can provide insights into the expected structure and requirements for field value nodes.

    4. Testing: After making changes, test the configuration to ensure that the error no longer occurs and that the system behaves as expected.

    5. Consult with SAP Support: If you are unable to resolve the issue, consider reaching out to SAP support or your internal SAP team for further assistance. They may have additional insights or tools to help diagnose the problem.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that might address this specific error or provide guidance on similar issues.
    • Community Forums: SAP Community and other forums can be valuable resources for finding similar issues faced by other users and the solutions they implemented.
    • Training and Documentation: If you are frequently working with hierarchical data structures in SAP, consider additional training or reviewing documentation to better understand the configuration requirements.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify the cause of the error and implement a solution to resolve it.
