  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message 37553 - Name & has already been assigned to a graphical element ?

The SAP error message 37553, which states "Name & has already been assigned to a graphical element," typically occurs in the context of SAP GUI or SAP Business Objects when there is a naming conflict in graphical elements, such as charts, reports, or other visual components. This error indicates that the name you are trying to assign to a graphical element is already in use by another element within the same context.

    Cause:

    1. Duplicate Naming: The most common cause is that you are trying to create or rename a graphical element (like a chart, report, or other visual component) with a name that is already assigned to another element in the same context (e.g., the same report or dashboard).
    2. Copying Elements: If you have copied an element and are trying to rename it, you might inadvertently try to assign it the same name as the original.
    3. Namespace Issues: In some cases, if you are working in a multi-user environment, another user might have already created an element with the same name.

    Solution:

    1. Rename the Element: The simplest solution is to choose a different, unique name for the graphical element you are trying to create or rename. Ensure that the new name does not conflict with existing names.
    2. Check Existing Elements: Review the existing graphical elements in your report or dashboard to identify any that may have the same name. You can do this by navigating through the elements in the design view.
    3. Use a Naming Convention: Implement a naming convention that includes unique identifiers (like timestamps, user initials, or project codes) to avoid future conflicts.
    4. Clear Cache: In some cases, clearing the cache or refreshing the environment may help if the error persists due to stale data.
    5. Consult Documentation: If you are unsure about the naming conventions or limitations, refer to the SAP documentation or help resources specific to the tool you are using.
