The SAP error message 37083, which states "Place fields from clipboard with 'Paste' function," typically occurs when you attempt to paste data into a field in SAP but the system does not recognize the action or the clipboard content is not compatible with the target field.
Cause:
- Clipboard Content: The content you are trying to paste may not be in a format that SAP can recognize or accept. For example, if you copied data from a non-SAP application or if the data format is incorrect.
- Field Restrictions: The target field may have restrictions on the type of data that can be pasted (e.g., numeric fields may not accept text).
- SAP GUI Issues: Sometimes, issues with the SAP GUI or the clipboard functionality can lead to this error.
- User Permissions: In some cases, user permissions may restrict certain actions, including pasting data.
Solution:
- Use the Correct Paste Function: Ensure you are using the correct method to paste. In SAP, you can usually paste by right-clicking and selecting "Paste" or using the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + V).
- Check Clipboard Content: Verify that the content you copied is compatible with the target field. If you copied from another application, try copying from within SAP instead.
- Format Data Appropriately: If you are pasting data into a specific field, ensure that the data matches the expected format (e.g., numeric, text).
- Restart SAP GUI: Sometimes, simply restarting the SAP GUI can resolve temporary issues with clipboard functionality.
- Check User Permissions: If you suspect that permissions may be an issue, consult with your SAP administrator to ensure you have the necessary rights to perform the action.
- Use Alternative Methods: If pasting continues to fail, consider typing the data manually or using SAP's built-in data import tools if applicable.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages
(message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.
An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
