- Validity of existing time periods will be changed ?The SAP error message 06503, which states "Validity of existing time periods will be changed," typically occurs in the context of time management or personnel administration when there is an attempt to modify time-related data that affects existing records. This error is often encountered when trying to change the validity period of a time-related infotype (like IT 0007 for planned working time or IT 2001 for absence) that overlaps with existing records.
Cause:
- Overlapping Validity Periods: The error is triggered when you attempt to change the validity period of a record that overlaps with existing records in the system. For example, if you are trying to change the validity of a time record that has already been defined for a specific period, and there are other records that fall within that period, the system will raise this error.
- Data Inconsistency: There may be inconsistencies in the data that prevent the system from processing the changes you are trying to make.
Solution:
- Check Existing Records: Review the existing time records for the employee or object you are trying to modify. Ensure that there are no overlapping validity periods. You can do this by navigating to the relevant infotype and checking the validity dates.
- Adjust Validity Periods: If there are overlapping records, you may need to adjust the validity periods of the existing records before making changes. This could involve deleting or changing the dates of existing records to ensure there are no conflicts.
- Use Transaction Codes: Use transaction codes like PA20 (Display HR Master Data) or PA30 (Maintain HR Master Data) to view and edit the infotypes related to the employee.
- Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help files for specific guidance on handling time management infotypes and validity periods.
- Seek Help from IT Support: If you are unable to resolve the issue, consider reaching out to your SAP support team or IT department for assistance. They may have additional tools or access to logs that can help diagnose the problem.
