Message text: Only restricted changes are possible for field &1
This authorization field is used in authorization objects for which
authorizations exist.
Making a change in the authorization field with regard to the assigned
data element could lead to inconsistent authorizations.
In this case, it is only possible to make restricted changes to the
authorization field.
Use the where-used function in transaction SU21 for the authorization
objects that use this field, to determine the users (authorizations) and
remove them.
Once there are no longer any authorizations for the authorization field,
you can make a complete change.
Caution: Consider the consequences for authorization checks implemented
in ABAP before continuing the process.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

- Only restricted changes are possible for field &1 ?The SAP error message "01734 Only restricted changes are possible for field &1" typically occurs when you attempt to make changes to a field in a transaction or data entry screen that is not allowed due to the current status of the document or the field's configuration. This message indicates that the field in question is in a state where only limited modifications can be made, often due to business rules or system settings.
Causes:
- Document Status: The document may be in a status that restricts changes. For example, if the document is already posted or approved, certain fields may be locked for editing.
- Field Configuration: The field may be configured in such a way that it only allows restricted changes. This can be due to settings in the data dictionary or specific application logic.
- User Authorizations: The user may not have the necessary authorizations to make changes to that field.
- Business Rules: Certain business processes may dictate that only specific fields can be changed after a certain point in the workflow.
Solutions:
- Check Document Status: Verify the status of the document you are trying to edit. If it is in a completed state, you may need to reverse or unlock it before making changes.
- Review Field Configuration: Consult with your SAP administrator or developer to understand the configuration of the field. They can check if the field is set to allow only restricted changes and if this can be modified.
- User Authorizations: Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to edit the field. If not, you may need to request additional access from your SAP security team.
- Follow Business Processes: Adhere to the established business processes. If the field is not meant to be changed at this stage, consider whether the change is necessary or if it can be handled through a different process (e.g., creating a new document or amendment).
