  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message WX002 - No valuation area could be determined for plant & ?

    SAP Error Message:
WX002 - No valuation area could be determined for plant &

    Cause:

This error occurs when the system tries to determine the valuation area for a given plant but fails to find any configuration or assignment. In SAP Materials Management (MM) and Inventory Management (IM), the valuation area is crucial because it defines the organizational level at which material valuation is carried out. Typically, the valuation area is either the plant or the company code, depending on the configuration.

The error usually arises in scenarios such as:

    • The plant is not assigned to any valuation area in the system.
    • The configuration for valuation area determination is missing or incorrect.
    • The material master or transaction requires valuation area information, but the system cannot find it for the specified plant.
    • Customizing settings in IMG (Implementation Guide) related to valuation area determination are incomplete or inconsistent.

    Where does this happen?

    • During goods movements (e.g., goods receipt, goods issue).
    • When creating or changing material master records.
    • During invoice verification or other inventory-related transactions.
    • In processes involving material valuation or inventory updates.

    Solution:

    1. Check Plant to Valuation Area Assignment:

      • Go to SPRO ? Materials Management ? Valuation and Account Assignment ? Account Determination ? Assign Plant to Valuation Area.
      • Verify that the plant in question is assigned to a valuation area.
      • If not assigned, assign the plant to the correct valuation area (usually the plant itself or the company code, depending on your valuation strategy).
    2. Check Valuation Area Determination Settings:

      • In SPRO, check the configuration under:
        • Materials Management ? Valuation and Account Assignment ? Valuation Area ? Define Valuation Area.
      • Ensure that the valuation area exists and is properly configured.
    3. Review Material Master Data:

      • Check if the material master is maintained correctly for the plant.
      • Ensure that the valuation data is maintained for the plant/valuation area.
    4. Check Valuation Strategy:

      • Determine if your company uses plant-level valuation or company code-level valuation.
      • The valuation area must be consistent with this strategy.
    5. Check User Exits or Enhancements:

      • If there are custom developments or user exits influencing valuation area determination, verify that they are working correctly.
    6. Reprocess the Transaction:

      • After correcting the configuration, retry the transaction that caused the error.

    Additional Information:

    • Valuation Area is a key organizational unit in SAP MM that controls how material valuation is managed.
    • The valuation area can be:
      • Plant (most common)
      • Company Code (less common)
    • The error message WX002 is a standard SAP message indicating missing configuration or master data.
    • This error is often encountered in integration points between MM and FI (Financial Accounting), where valuation data is critical.
