What causes this issue?

You attempted to maintain a validity period other than "today until the
maximum date" for this assortment. This is not currently possible.
The fields are ready for input, but this is only to ensure
compatibility with developments that are planned in this area for the
future.
Please use the status if you wish to limit the validity of an
assortment.

System Response

The system always sets the start date to today and the end date to the
maximum value.

How to fix this error?

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
