What causes this issue?

An error occured when the system checked the externally assigned
shipment number.
This has one of the following reasons:
The number range which is to be used for the check has not been defined.
The number range is not an external number range.
The external number is not within the interval.

System Response

The system terminated the processing of the shipment.

Procedure for System Administrators

In order to determine the cause, check the following settings and change
them, if necessary:

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

Has a number range been defined for the transportation planning point?
Check in Customizing:
Enter a number range for the relevant transportation planning point in
the "external number range" column in <DS:TRAN.0VTP>Maintain
transportation planning point for external systems</>.
In <DS:TRAN.VN07>Define number ranges for shipments</>, you can see
whether this number range exists.
Has the defined number range been marked as external number range?
Is the specified number within this interval?
