Smart SAP Assistant

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message USMD6150 - Instance &2 of entity type &1 is a hierarchy node: deletion not possible ?

The SAP error message USMD6150 indicates that you are trying to delete an instance of an entity type that is a hierarchy node, which is not allowed. This typically occurs in the context of SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) when you attempt to delete a master data record that is part of a hierarchical structure.

    Cause:

    The error arises because:

    • The entity you are trying to delete is a node in a hierarchy (e.g., a category, organizational unit, or any other hierarchical structure).
    • Hierarchical nodes often have dependencies or relationships with other nodes, making them non-deletable to maintain the integrity of the hierarchy.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can consider the following approaches:

    1. Check Hierarchical Relationships:

      • Review the hierarchy to understand the relationships and dependencies of the node you are trying to delete. Ensure that it is not a parent node or has child nodes that need to be addressed first.
    2. Remove Dependencies:

      • If the node has child nodes, you may need to delete or reassign those child nodes before you can delete the parent node.
      • If the node is referenced in other master data records, you may need to update those records to remove the reference.
    3. Use the Correct Deletion Method:

      • Instead of deleting the node, consider marking it as inactive if your business process allows for it. This way, you can retain the historical data while preventing its use in future transactions.
    4. Consult Documentation:

      • Refer to the SAP documentation or help resources specific to your version of MDG for additional guidance on handling hierarchical data.
    5. Seek Help from SAP Support:

      • If you are unable to resolve the issue, consider reaching out to SAP support for assistance. They can provide insights based on your specific configuration and data model.

    Related Information:

    • Hierarchy Management: Understanding how hierarchies work in SAP MDG is crucial. Familiarize yourself with the concepts of parent-child relationships and how they affect data management.
    • Data Governance: Ensure that your data governance policies are in place to manage master data effectively, including how to handle deletions and modifications.
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes in SAP MDG that pertain to managing hierarchies and master data.

By following these steps, you should be able to address the error and manage your hierarchical data effectively.
