Message text: Characteristic &4 (&3) is not restricted to a single value
Characteristic &v2& (&v1&) is compounded to characteristic &v4& (&v3&).
In order to execute the function, it is necessary that all the higher-
level characteristics to the characteristic &v2& (&v1&) are restricted
to a single value at the execution time.
The planning function could not be executed.
Restrict characteristic &v4& (&v3&) in the selections of the planning
level or the planning package to a single characteristic value.
<ZH>Note:</> In exceptional cases it can occur that you get this
several times after the other. The cause of this is a multi-level
compound of characteristics, where the necessary characteristic
restriction to a single value is not specified for several
characteristics. The current message names in each case the
characteristic that you have to restrict to a single value in order to
execute the function.

- Characteristic &4 (&3) is not restricted to a single value ?The SAP error message UPB122 indicates that a characteristic in a planning scenario is not restricted to a single value, which is a requirement for certain operations in SAP Business Planning (BPC) or SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP). This error typically arises when you are trying to execute a planning function or a data entry operation that expects a characteristic to have a single value, but it has multiple values assigned.
Cause:
- Multiple Values Assigned: The characteristic in question has multiple values assigned in the context of the planning function or operation you are trying to execute.
- Incorrect Planning Function Configuration: The planning function may be incorrectly configured to expect a single value for a characteristic that is not restricted.
- Data Entry Issues: During data entry, if a user selects multiple values for a characteristic that should only have one, this error can occur.
Solution:
- Check Characteristic Values: Review the values assigned to the characteristic in the context of the operation you are trying to perform. Ensure that only one value is selected.
- Modify Planning Function: If you are using a planning function, check its configuration. Ensure that it is set up to handle the characteristics correctly and that it expects a single value where necessary.
- Restrict Values: If applicable, restrict the characteristic to a single value in the planning view or data entry screen. This may involve changing the selection criteria or filters.
- Data Validation: Implement data validation rules to ensure that users can only select a single value for the characteristic in question.
- Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on the planning function or scenario you are working with.
