  • What causes this issue?

The export mode chosen was 'translation system upgrade'.
For security reasons, this export mode is subject to restrictions.
It was implemented with the purpose of ensuring that no parts of
the translated language(s) are lost when upgrading a translation system
    using the 'Repository switch method'.
The following requirements must be met:
    - The languages to be exported must be translated in the system
(see transaction SMLT -> Classify language)
    - Table PUTTB must be imported for the planned upgrade
    - The field 'Upgrade release' must be filled; the Release entered
must be higher than the system release
    Restrictions:
    - Only the tables to be swapped in the upgrade are exported
    - Compressed format is always used for the export
    - The export set can only be imported into a system with the same
name, same machine and same instance number
    - This kind of set must not be delivered; import is refused in this
    case
This export mode works with the same logic as the 'Complete language'
    mode.
The following files are output at file system level:

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    in the output directory
    HEADER,,Deltas - Import - Variants (empty)

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message TL472 - Restrictions due to specific transport mode; see long text ?

The SAP error message TL472 indicates that there are restrictions related to a specific transport mode when trying to perform a transport operation. This error typically arises in the context of the Transport Management System (TMS) in SAP, which is responsible for managing the transport of objects between different SAP systems (e.g., development, quality assurance, and production).

    Cause:

The TL472 error can occur due to several reasons, including:

    1. Transport Mode Restrictions: Certain transport modes (e.g., "Customizing" or "Workbench") may have specific restrictions based on the configuration of the transport landscape or the type of objects being transported.

    2. Transport Layer Configuration: The transport layer may not be correctly configured to allow the transport of certain objects or changes.

    3. Transport Route Issues: There may be issues with the transport route that prevent the transport from being executed in the desired mode.

    4. Missing Authorizations: The user may lack the necessary authorizations to perform the transport in the specified mode.

    5. Transport Request Status: The transport request may be in a status that does not allow it to be transported (e.g., it may be released or not yet released).

    Solution:

To resolve the TL472 error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Check Transport Mode: Review the transport mode you are trying to use and ensure it is appropriate for the objects you are transporting. If necessary, switch to a different transport mode that is allowed for the objects.

    2. Review Transport Layer Configuration: Ensure that the transport layer is correctly configured to allow the transport of the objects in question. You may need to consult with your SAP Basis team to verify the configuration.

    3. Examine Transport Route: Check the transport route settings in TMS to ensure that they are correctly defined and that there are no issues preventing the transport.

    4. Verify Authorizations: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to perform the transport operation. You may need to consult with your security team if you suspect authorization issues.

    5. Check Transport Request Status: Verify the status of the transport request. If it is not released, you may need to release it before attempting to transport.

    6. Consult Long Text: The error message TL472 often comes with a long text that provides additional details about the specific restrictions. Make sure to read this long text for more context on the issue.
