  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message RSEC275 - No hierarchy authorization permitted ?

The SAP error message RSEC275 "No hierarchy authorization permitted" typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP BI (Business Intelligence) when a user attempts to access a hierarchy for which they do not have the necessary authorizations. This error is related to the authorization checks that are in place to ensure that users can only access data and hierarchies they are permitted to see.

    Cause:

    1. Missing Authorizations: The user does not have the required authorizations to access the specific hierarchy or the data associated with it.
    2. Hierarchy Settings: The hierarchy may be set up in a way that restricts access based on certain criteria, and the user does not meet those criteria.
    3. Role Assignment: The user’s role may not include the necessary permissions for the hierarchy in question.

    Solution:

    1. Check User Authorizations:

      • Use transaction code SU53 immediately after the error occurs to see which authorization check failed. This will provide insight into what specific authorization is missing.
      • Review the user’s roles and authorizations in transaction PFCG to ensure that the necessary authorizations for the hierarchy are included.
    2. Modify Roles:

      • If the user lacks the necessary authorizations, you may need to modify their roles to include the required authorizations for the hierarchy.
      • Ensure that the roles are properly assigned to the user.
    3. Hierarchy Authorization Objects:

      • Check the relevant authorization objects related to hierarchies, such as S_BI_WA (for BW authorizations) or any specific authorization objects that pertain to the hierarchies being accessed.
      • Ensure that the user has the necessary authorizations for these objects.
    4. Consult with Security Team:

      • If you are not authorized to make changes to roles or authorizations, consult with your SAP security team or administrator to resolve the issue.
    5. Testing:

      • After making changes, have the user log out and log back in to test if the issue is resolved.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error or provide additional guidance on authorization issues.
    • Documentation: Review SAP documentation on authorization management in BW/BI to understand how hierarchies and authorizations are structured.
    • Transaction Codes:
      • SU53: Display authorization check.
      • PFCG: Role maintenance.
      • RSUSR003: User authorizations overview.
