Message text: Link cannot be changed
A connection in the data flow needs to be changed but the link cannot be
changed in this constellation. This is due to one of the following
reasons:
The link target is a persistent MultiProvider or an InfoSet. In this
case, the contained object cannot be removed by deleting the link. The
object can only be removed using the maintenance mode of the
MultiProvider or InfoSet.
The link defines a subobject of a semantically partitioned object or an
InfoObject. In this case, the subobjects can only be deleted in the
maintenance mode of the main object.
The link is a persistent transformation or a persistent data transfer
process. In this case, the target object or source object cannot be
changed. You need to delete the object and create it again.
The link is not change.
Change the corresponding objects in the relevant object maintenance
screen or delete the object and create the object again for the new
source objects or target objects.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

RSDF026
- Link cannot be changed ?The SAP error message RSDF026 ("Link cannot be changed") typically occurs in the context of Data Warehousing, particularly when dealing with InfoObjects, DataSources, or transformations in SAP BW (Business Warehouse). This error indicates that there is an attempt to modify a link (such as a data source or transformation) that is not allowed due to certain constraints.
Causes:
- Active Objects: The object you are trying to change is currently active in the system. In SAP BW, certain objects must be inactive before you can make changes to them.
- Dependencies: The object may have dependencies or be linked to other objects that prevent changes. For example, if a transformation is linked to an active DataSource or InfoProvider, it cannot be modified.
- Authorization Issues: Lack of proper authorizations can also lead to this error, as certain changes may be restricted based on user roles.
- Transport Requests: If the object is part of a transport request that is currently being processed, it may be locked for changes.
Solutions:
- Deactivate the Object: If the object is active, deactivate it first. You can do this by navigating to the object in the SAP BW modeling tools and selecting the option to deactivate.
- Check Dependencies: Review any dependencies or links to other objects. Ensure that all related objects are also inactive or not locked.
- Check Authorizations: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to make changes to the object. You may need to consult with your SAP security team if you suspect authorization issues.
- Transport Request Management: If the object is part of a transport request, check the status of the transport. If it is locked, you may need to wait until the transport is completed or consult with your Basis team.
- Use Transaction Codes: You can use transaction codes like
RSA1
(Data Warehousing Workbench) to navigate to the relevant objects and check their status.Related Information:
If the problem persists after trying the above solutions, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP Basis or BW team for further investigation.
