Message class: RH - BW: Hierarchies ( basic functions )
Message number: 242
Message text: &1 of a total of &2 nodes are not included in the hierarchy
The root nodes are the starting point for moving through the hierarchy.
The content of the fields NEXTID and CHILDID is used to move from the
current node to its sibling and child nodes.
&V1& out of a total of &V2& nodes cannot be reached by moving through
the hierarchy in this way. These &V1& nodes are not connected to the
hierarchy.
The hierarchy is not consistent and therefore cannot be activated.
The cause of the problem is usually incorrect links to sibling nodes
(field NEXTID) or child nodes (field CHILDID). An incorrect value often
means that an entire subtree (consisting of several nodes) is not
included in the hierarchy.
To simplify the search for incorrect links, the system identifies the
nodes (from all the not connected nodes) that are not used as sibling
nodes or as child nodes. These nodes are usually root nodes of subtrees
that are not connected to the hierarchy. You can find these nodes in the
RH 207 messages that follow.
Try to localize the problem by using the RH207 messages for help. If the
hierarchy is loaded from an SAP source system, you can check whether the
extracted data is correct by executing transaction RSA3 in the source
system. If necessary, check if the data is modified with a user exit. If
the hierarchy is loaded from a file, check the contents of this file.
The problem might also be due to an error in the transfer rules or in
the transformation.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

RH242
- &1 of a total of &2 nodes are not included in the hierarchy ?The SAP error message RH242 indicates that a certain number of nodes (objects) are not included in a hierarchy, which can occur in various contexts, such as organizational management or other hierarchical structures within SAP.
Cause:
The error message RH242 typically arises due to one or more of the following reasons:
Incorrect Hierarchy Configuration: The nodes that are not included may not be properly configured in the hierarchy. This could be due to missing relationships or incorrect settings.
Data Inconsistencies: There may be inconsistencies in the data, such as missing master data or incorrect assignments that prevent certain nodes from being included.
Authorization Issues: Sometimes, the user may not have the necessary authorizations to view or include certain nodes in the hierarchy.
Inactive Nodes: The nodes that are not included might be inactive or not valid for the current organizational structure.
Hierarchy Level Limitations: There may be restrictions on the number of levels or nodes that can be included in a hierarchy.
Solution:
To resolve the RH242 error, you can take the following steps:
Check Hierarchy Configuration:
- Review the hierarchy settings to ensure that all nodes are correctly defined and linked.
- Ensure that the nodes you expect to see are active and properly configured.
Validate Data:
- Check for any missing or inconsistent data in the master records related to the nodes.
- Ensure that all necessary relationships are established.
Review Authorizations:
- Verify that the user has the appropriate authorizations to access and modify the hierarchy.
- If necessary, consult with your SAP security team to adjust authorizations.
Activate Inactive Nodes:
- If any nodes are inactive, consider activating them if they are required for the hierarchy.
Consult Documentation:
- Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on hierarchy management in your version of SAP.
Use Transaction Codes:
- Utilize relevant transaction codes (like PPOME for organizational management) to analyze and adjust the hierarchy.
Check for System Notes:
- Look for any SAP Notes related to this error message that might provide additional insights or patches.
Related Information:
By following these steps, you should be able to identify the cause of the RH242 error and implement a solution to include the necessary nodes in the hierarchy.
