  • What causes this issue?

The control limits for track &V1& on the control chart cannot be
    calculated with the existing data.

    System Response

The function was not carried out.

    How to fix this error?

The procedure depends on the type of track and the type of inspection
characteristic. The following options are available:
In the case of an average value track, the standard deviations of the
samples are required to calculate the limits.
In the case of <ZH>summarized recording</>, you can enter these in the
    single screen for the characteristic.
In the case of <ZH>classified recording</> or <ZH>recording of
individual values</>, the standard deviation is only determined
automatically during the valuation. In order to initiate the
calculation before the valuation is performed, call the function for
    recording the statistical moments.
In the case of an average value track for an acceptance chart, if the
dispersion is large or the tolerance range is small, then the value
for the upper control limit can sometimes be less than that of the
    lower control limit.
If this happens, then you should repeat the calculation at a later
    date,when the dispersion has decreased.
Individual algorithms can often require a certain minimum number of
inspection results before a calculation is possible.
The exact requirements depend on the procedure stored for the track in
    the Customizing application.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message QE717 - Control limits for track &1 could not be calculated ?

The SAP error message QE717, which states "Control limits for track &1 could not be calculated," typically occurs in the context of quality management, particularly when dealing with control charts in SAP Quality Management (QM). This error indicates that the system was unable to compute the control limits for a specific track (or control chart) due to various reasons.

    Causes:

    1. Insufficient Data: The most common reason for this error is that there is not enough data available for the calculation of control limits. Control limits require a certain amount of historical data to be calculated accurately.

    2. Incorrect Configuration: The control chart or the associated settings may not be configured correctly. This includes settings related to the type of control chart being used or the parameters defined for the quality characteristic.

    3. Missing Master Data: Required master data, such as characteristics or specifications, may be missing or incorrectly defined.

    4. Statistical Parameters: The statistical parameters required for the calculation (like mean, standard deviation) may not be available or may be incorrectly set.

    5. Data Quality Issues: There may be issues with the quality of the data being used, such as outliers or invalid entries that prevent proper calculations.

    Solutions:

    1. Check Data Availability: Ensure that there is sufficient historical data for the control chart. You may need to collect more data points to enable the calculation of control limits.

    2. Review Configuration: Verify the configuration of the control chart. Check the settings for the control chart type and ensure that all necessary parameters are correctly defined.

    3. Validate Master Data: Ensure that all required master data is present and correctly configured. This includes checking the characteristics and specifications associated with the control chart.

    4. Examine Statistical Parameters: Review the statistical parameters used for the control chart. Make sure that the mean and standard deviation are calculated correctly and that there are no data quality issues.

    5. Data Cleansing: If there are data quality issues, consider cleansing the data to remove outliers or invalid entries that may be affecting the calculations.

    6. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on the control chart configuration and requirements.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error or provide additional troubleshooting steps.
