How To Fix PEP231 - Nodes with NODE_ID &1 and &2 both occur at end of task group sequence

SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message class: PEP - Schedule Manager: Messages

  • Message number: 231

  • Message text: Nodes with NODE_ID &1 and &2 both occur at end of task group sequence

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

One of the task groups has more than one final task. This is not
    possible.
Technical information: All tasks with the same task group are connected
to one another in a chain. The content of the
    NSIBLING_ID field refers to the
NODE_ID node of the next task in the chain.
Since this chain can logically only end with
one task, it follows that only one task in a task group (the task at the
end of the chain) can have an empty NSIBLING_ID field. If there is more
than one field with an empty NSIBLING_ID field, the task list is faulty.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message PEP231 - Nodes with NODE_ID &1 and &2 both occur at end of task group sequence ?

The SAP error message PEP231 indicates that there is an issue with the task group sequence in the Project Management (PS) module, specifically related to the nodes defined in a task group. The error message states that two nodes with the specified NODE_IDs both occur at the end of the task group sequence, which is not allowed.

    Cause:

    This error typically arises when:

    1. Duplicate End Nodes: Two nodes are defined as end nodes in the task group sequence, which violates the expected structure of a task group. In a valid sequence, there should only be one end node.
    2. Incorrect Task Group Configuration: The configuration of the task group may not be set up correctly, leading to multiple nodes being treated as end nodes.
    3. Data Integrity Issues: There may be inconsistencies or errors in the underlying data that define the task group and its nodes.

    Solution:

To resolve the PEP231 error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Review Task Group Configuration:

      • Go to the task group definition in the SAP system.
      • Check the sequence of nodes and ensure that only one node is marked as the end node.
    2. Adjust Node Definitions:

      • If you find that both nodes are incorrectly defined as end nodes, modify the configuration to ensure that only one node is designated as the end node.
      • You may need to change the status of one of the nodes to a non-end node.
    3. Validate Data Integrity:

      • Check for any inconsistencies in the data related to the task group and its nodes.
      • Ensure that all nodes are correctly linked and that there are no orphaned nodes or incorrect references.
    4. Test the Changes:

      • After making the necessary adjustments, test the task group sequence again to ensure that the error is resolved.
    5. Consult Documentation:

      • If you are unsure about the configuration, refer to SAP documentation or consult with a functional consultant who specializes in Project Management (PS) to ensure that the task group is set up correctly.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You may use transaction codes like CJ20N (Project Builder) or CJ02 (Change Project) to access and modify project structures.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error or provide additional guidance on task group configurations.
    • Training and Support: If you continue to face issues, consider reaching out to SAP support or attending training sessions focused on Project System configuration.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the cause of the PEP231 error in your SAP system.
