  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message ON174 - Local object types will now be displayed as well ?

The SAP error message ON174 indicates that local object types will now be displayed as well. This message typically arises in the context of ABAP development when you are working with local objects (objects that are not transported between systems) in the SAP environment.

    Cause:

The error message ON174 is not necessarily an error in the traditional sense but rather an informational message. It indicates that the system is now configured to display local object types in addition to the standard object types. This can happen when you are working in a development environment where local objects are being used, and the system is notifying you that these objects will be included in the display or processing.

    Solution:

    1. Understanding Local Objects: Ensure that you understand the implications of using local objects. Local objects are typically used for development and testing purposes and are not meant to be transported to other systems (like production). If you are developing something that needs to be transported, consider using a development package instead.

    2. Check Object Types: If you are seeing this message and it is causing confusion, check the object types you are working with. You may want to filter or adjust your view to focus on the relevant object types for your development.

    3. Adjust Settings: If you do not want to see local objects, you may need to adjust your settings in the development environment. This can usually be done in the ABAP Workbench or through the relevant configuration settings.

    4. Documentation and Help: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for more information on local objects and their usage. This can provide insights into best practices and how to manage local objects effectively.

    Related Information:

    • Local Objects: In SAP, local objects are identified by the prefix $_ and are typically used for temporary development work. They are not included in transport requests and are specific to the development environment.
    • Transport Management: Understanding the transport management system in SAP is crucial for managing how objects are moved between different environments (development, quality assurance, production).
    • ABAP Development: Familiarize yourself with ABAP development best practices, including when to use local objects versus transportable objects.
