  • What causes this issue?

The Quantity Conversion Interface (QCI) allows you to calculate target
quantities that are corrected for BSW content (Volume percentage). In
order to obtain a consistent result, the transaction quantity has to be
entered at ambient conditions. The target units of measure, on the other
hand, should be defined at standard conditions (volumes).
    <ZH>Example</>
You post a goods movement of 1000 Barrel of crude oil with a BSW of 10
%. You should enter 1,000 BBL and the material temperature (60 FAH) and
not 1,000 BB6 (Barrel at 60 FAH). Then, the target quantities will be
corrected using the BSW % factor. Target units should always be masses
or volumes at defined standard conditions. If you enter 1,000 BB6
instead and also have UG6 (gallons at 60 FAH) defined in the unit of
measure group, the result appears to be inconsistent. The system then
    stores a movement of 1,000 BB6 and 37,800 UG6.
If you enter 1,000 BBL and a BSW of 10%, the system calculates both the
900 BB6 and 37,800 UG6 value correctly (if defined in the UoM group) and
stores these values, in addition to the uncorrected transaction
    quantity of 1,000 BBL.
If you have also a target unit of measure UGL (gallons at ambient)
defined, that quantity will be calculated to be 37,800 UGL (since the
material temperature is 60 FAH). This may appear, although correctly
calculated, not to be correct. The 1,000 BBL at 60 FAH are including the
BSW % volume, the 37,800 UGL exclude that volume percentage.

    System Response

A target unit of measure at ambient has to be calculated. The system
issues a warning message. Processing can continue. You may want to
overwrite the calculated value for that unit of measure.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message O3362 - Target unit of measure for BSW % is defined at ambient conditions ?

The SAP error message O3362 indicates that there is an issue with the target unit of measure for a specific material or product, particularly in the context of a batch management or production process. The error specifically mentions that the target unit of measure for BSW (which typically stands for "Basic Substance Weight" or similar) is defined at ambient conditions, which may not be appropriate for the current context of the transaction or process.

    Cause:

    1. Incorrect Unit of Measure Configuration: The target unit of measure for the material may not be set up correctly in the material master data. It could be defined for ambient conditions, but the process may require a different unit of measure.
    2. Inconsistent Data: There may be inconsistencies in the data related to the material, such as the conversion factors between different units of measure not being defined correctly.
    3. Batch Management Settings: If batch management is enabled, the settings for the batch may not align with the expected units of measure for the process being executed.

    Solution:

    1. Check Material Master Data:

      • Go to the material master record (transaction code MM03) and check the unit of measure settings.
      • Ensure that the target unit of measure for BSW is correctly defined and appropriate for the process you are executing.
    2. Review Unit of Measure Conversions:

      • Verify that the conversion factors between different units of measure are correctly defined in the material master.
      • Ensure that the base unit of measure is set correctly and that all necessary conversions are in place.
    3. Adjust Batch Management Settings:

      • If batch management is being used, check the batch characteristics and ensure that they are set up correctly to match the required units of measure.
      • Review the batch classification and ensure that the relevant characteristics are defined correctly.
    4. Consult Documentation:

      • Review SAP documentation or help resources related to unit of measure settings and batch management to ensure compliance with best practices.
    5. Contact SAP Support:

      • If the issue persists after checking the above settings, consider reaching out to SAP support for further assistance, as they may provide insights specific to your system configuration.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: MM03 (Display Material), MM02 (Change Material), and MSC2N (Change Batch) may be useful for checking and modifying material and batch data.
    • SAP Notes: Look for relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error or provide additional troubleshooting steps.
    • User Forums: Consider checking SAP community forums or user groups for similar issues and solutions shared by other users.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the cause of the O3362 error in SAP.
