  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message O3249 - Parameter can not be chosen as default parameter; only display possible ?

The SAP error message O3249 indicates that a parameter you are trying to set as a default parameter cannot be chosen as such because it is only available for display purposes. This typically occurs in the context of transaction variants or selection screens where certain parameters are not intended to be defaulted by the system.

    Cause:

    1. Parameter Type: The parameter you are trying to set as a default is likely defined as a display-only parameter in the program or transaction. This means it is not meant to accept user input or be set as a default value.
    2. Configuration Settings: The configuration of the transaction or report may restrict certain parameters from being defaulted due to business logic or design choices.
    3. User Authorizations: In some cases, user roles and authorizations may limit the ability to set certain parameters as defaults.

    Solution:

    1. Check Parameter Definition: Review the definition of the parameter in the relevant transaction or program. Ensure that it is not set as a display-only parameter. If it is, you will need to find an alternative parameter that can be set as a default.
    2. Modify Transaction Variants: If you are working with transaction variants, ensure that you are not trying to set a display-only field as a default. You may need to adjust the variant settings accordingly.
    3. Consult Documentation: Refer to the SAP documentation or help resources for the specific transaction or program to understand the intended use of the parameters.
    4. Contact SAP Support: If you believe this is an error or if you need further assistance, consider reaching out to SAP support for guidance.
