  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message MPN01001 - Material type cannot be an FFFF class and and IM-MPN at the same time ?

The SAP error message MPN01001 indicates that there is a conflict in the configuration of a material type in the context of the Material Planning Network (MPN) functionality. Specifically, the error states that a material type cannot be classified as both an FFFF class (which typically refers to a non-stock material) and as an IM-MPN (Inventory Management - Material Planning Network) material at the same time.

    Cause:

    1. Material Type Configuration: The material type you are trying to use is configured in such a way that it is classified as an FFFF class, which is generally used for non-stock materials. However, it is also being treated as an IM-MPN material, which is intended for stock materials that are part of the MPN process.
    2. Inconsistent Settings: There may be inconsistent settings in the material master data or in the configuration of the material types that lead to this conflict.

    Solution:

    1. Check Material Type Settings:

      • Go to the configuration settings for the material type in transaction SPRO.
      • Navigate to Logistics - General > Material Master > Basic Settings > Material Types.
      • Review the settings for the material type in question and ensure that it is not set as an FFFF class if it is intended to be used as an IM-MPN material.
    2. Adjust Material Master Data:

      • If the material is already created, check the material master data using transaction MM03.
      • Ensure that the material type assigned to the material is appropriate for its intended use (i.e., it should not be an FFFF class if it is meant to be an IM-MPN material).
    3. Create a New Material Type:

      • If necessary, consider creating a new material type that is specifically designed for MPN materials and does not conflict with the FFFF class.
    4. Consult Documentation:

      • Review SAP documentation or consult with your SAP support team for specific guidelines on configuring material types and MPN settings.

    Related Information:

    • Material Types: In SAP, material types define the attributes and behavior of materials. Each material type has specific settings that determine how it is treated in various processes (e.g., procurement, inventory management).
    • MPN (Material Planning Network): MPN is a functionality in SAP that allows for the management of materials that are part of a network of suppliers and customers, facilitating better planning and inventory management.
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as MM01 (Create Material), MM02 (Change Material), and MM03 (Display Material) for managing material master data.

By addressing the configuration and ensuring that the material type aligns with its intended use, you should be able to resolve the error message MPN01001.
