  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message MPE_INSTALLATION_MSG017 - BOM not exploded for network ?

The SAP error message MPE_INSTALLATION_MSG017 indicates that a Bill of Materials (BOM) has not been exploded for a specific network in the context of project management or production planning. This error typically arises in scenarios where a network activity is linked to a BOM, but the system fails to explode the BOM for that network.

    Causes:

    1. Missing BOM: The BOM for the material or component linked to the network activity may not exist or may not be correctly defined in the system.
    2. Incorrect Configuration: The configuration settings for the network or the project may not be set up to allow BOM explosion.
    3. Status of the Network: The network might be in a status that does not allow BOM explosion (e.g., not released).
    4. Material Master Issues: The material master data for the components may not be correctly maintained, leading to issues in BOM explosion.
    5. Dependencies: There may be dependencies or conditions that prevent the BOM from being exploded, such as missing components or incorrect routing.

    Solutions:

    1. Check BOM Existence: Verify that the BOM exists for the material in question. You can do this by using transaction code CS03 (Display BOM) to check if the BOM is correctly defined.
    2. Review Network Configuration: Ensure that the network is configured correctly to allow BOM explosion. Check the settings in the project definition and network activities.
    3. Release the Network: If the network is not released, release it to allow for BOM explosion. You can do this using transaction code CN22 (Change Network).
    4. Material Master Verification: Check the material master data for the components involved. Ensure that all necessary data is maintained and that the material is active.
    5. Check Dependencies: Review any dependencies or conditions that might be preventing the BOM from being exploded. This may involve checking routing, component availability, and other related settings.
    6. Use Transaction Codes: Utilize relevant transaction codes such as C223 (Assign BOM to Network) to ensure that the BOM is correctly assigned to the network.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with transaction codes like CS01 (Create BOM), CS02 (Change BOM), CS03 (Display BOM), CN22 (Change Network), and C223 (Assign BOM to Network).
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help files for detailed information on BOM management and network planning.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address specific issues related to BOM explosion and network activities.
