  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message MM078 - At least two deletion flags are set ?

The SAP error message MM078 ("At least two deletion flags are set") typically occurs in the Materials Management (MM) module when there are multiple deletion flags set for a material or a related object, such as a purchasing info record, vendor master, or material master. This situation can arise when trying to delete or change the status of a material or related data.

    Cause:

    The error is triggered when:

    1. More than one deletion flag is set for the same object. For example, if both the "Deletion Flag" for the material master and the "Deletion Flag" for the purchasing info record are activated.
    2. The system does not allow multiple deletion flags to be set simultaneously for the same object to prevent data inconsistencies.

    Solution:

To resolve the MM078 error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Identify the Objects with Deletion Flags:

      • Check the material master, purchasing info records, and any other related objects to see which ones have deletion flags set.
      • You can use transaction codes like MM03 (Display Material), ME13 (Display Info Record), or MK03 (Display Vendor) to check the status of these records.
    2. Remove Unnecessary Deletion Flags:

      • If you find that multiple deletion flags are set, you will need to remove the unnecessary flags.
      • For example, if both the material master and the purchasing info record have deletion flags, decide which one should remain flagged for deletion and remove the other.
      • You can do this by using the respective transaction codes to edit the records and uncheck the deletion flag.
    3. Check for Related Records:

      • Ensure that there are no other related records that might also have deletion flags set. This includes checking for any dependent materials or related purchasing documents.
    4. Re-attempt the Operation:

      • After resolving the deletion flags, re-attempt the operation that triggered the error.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:

      • MM03: Display Material Master
      • ME13: Display Purchasing Info Record
