  • Message text: The material cannot be maintained since no maintainable data transferred

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

You wanted to maintain an existing material master record as follows:
    By changing it
However, you have not yet maintained the material master record for the
    <DS:GLOS.organizational_level>organizational levels</> and data fields
    specified, or <DS:GLOS.user_department>user departments</> selected.
You can therefore process this data only in <LS>Create</> mode.
    By extending it
However, you have already fully created the material master record for
the organizational levels and data fields specified, or user
departments selected. You can therefore process this data only in
    <LS>Change</> mode.
In both cases, this message can appear if there is no maintainable user
department left. This occurs if you have not set the <LS>Check required
fields</> indicator when transferring data (program RMDATIND). Although
the absence of an entry in <DS:GLOS.required_field>required fields</>
does not then necessarily result in an error, the number of
maintainable user departments is reduced accordingly.

    System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

Depending on the cause, maintain the material master record in
<LS>Create</> or <LS>Change</> mode, or also transfer the missing
    required fields.

The SAP error message MG160, which states "The material cannot be maintained since no maintainable data transferred," typically occurs when you attempt to create or change a material master record, but the system does not have the necessary data to perform the operation. This can happen for several reasons, and understanding the cause is essential for finding a solution.

    Causes:

    1. Missing Data: The material master record may not have the required data in the relevant views (e.g., Basic Data, Purchasing, Sales, etc.) that are necessary for the operation you are trying to perform.

    Solutions:

    1. Check Material Data: Ensure that the material you are trying to maintain has the necessary data in the required views. You can do this by displaying the material master record using transaction code MM03.
    2. Use Correct Transaction: Make sure you are using the correct transaction code for the operation you want to perform. For example, use MM01 for creating a material, MM02 for changing it, and MM03 for displaying it.
    3. Review Authorizations: Check if the user has the necessary authorizations to maintain the material master. This can be done by reviewing the user's roles and authorizations in the system.
    4. Check Configuration: Review the configuration settings for the material type and views in the Customizing settings (transaction code SPRO). Ensure that the necessary views are activated for the material type you are working with.
    5. Data Transfer Validation: If you are using a data transfer method, validate the data being transferred to ensure it meets the requirements of the material master. Check for any errors in the data mapping or transformation process.
