Material &V1& is a material to be discontinued. After the effective out
date (&V3&), it will be replaced by material &V2& as soon as the
present stock has been used up. As of this date, the system will switch
any independent requirements in MRP, that are no longer covered by
existing warehouse stock, to the follow-up material &V2&.
Depending on how the system is set, this message is either a warning or
an error message.
If this message is an error message, you can only reserve the follow-up
material for the requirements date specified by you. If it is
absolutely necessary to reserve the material to be discontinued, you
must enter a date that precedes the effective out date.
If this message is a warning, it is still possible to reserve the
material to be discontinued. As of the effective out date, the

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages
(message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.
An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
