Message text: Quantities of the sub-items are different from qty of the main item
You have distributed the quantity of the main item among the sub-items.
However, the total of all the sub-items does not match the quantity of
the main item.
The system can only post the goods movement for the main item if the

item.
Adjust the distribution. You can also change the quantity of the main
item by entering a new constellation of the quantities for the
sub-items.
However, do not exit the distribution screen using the <LS>Cancel</>
function, as all changes will be reset and the stock will reurn to the
original inconsistent status.

M7338
- Quantities of the sub-items are different from qty of the main item ?The SAP error message M7338, which states "Quantities of the sub-items are different from qty of the main item," typically occurs in the context of inventory management and material movements. This error indicates that there is a mismatch between the total quantity of sub-items (components or parts) and the quantity of the main item in a bill of materials (BOM) or during a goods movement.
Cause:
- Mismatch in Quantities: The total quantity of the sub-items does not equal the quantity of the main item. This can happen during the creation of a production order, goods receipt, or when performing inventory adjustments.
- Incorrect BOM Configuration: If the BOM is not correctly configured, the quantities of the components may not align with the main item.
- Manual Entry Errors: Errors during manual entry of quantities for sub-items or main items can lead to discrepancies.
- Changes in BOM: If the BOM has been changed after the production order was created, it may lead to inconsistencies in quantities.
Solution:
- Check BOM Configuration: Verify the BOM for the main item to ensure that the quantities of the sub-items are correctly defined. Make sure that the total quantity of sub-items matches the quantity of the main item.
- Review Production Order: If the error occurs during a production order, check the order details to ensure that the quantities are correctly specified.
- Adjust Quantities: If there is a discrepancy, adjust the quantities of the sub-items or the main item as necessary to ensure they match.
- Recreate the Order: In some cases, it may be necessary to delete and recreate the production order or goods movement to resolve the issue.
- Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on handling BOMs and production orders.
