Message text: Reorder point considered only with reorder point or time-phased planning
You have entered a <DS:GLOS.reorder_point>reorder point</>, but chosen
an <DS:GLOS.MRP_type>MRP type</> that does not require one. It is only
of use entering a reorder point in conjunction with
<DS:GLOS.reorder_point_planning>reorder point planning</> or
<DS:GLOS.time-phased_materials_planning>time-phased materials planning
</>.
The system does not reset the reorder point because you can define in
Customizing for <LS>Consumption-Based Planning</> that the reorder
point is calculated automatically for any MRP type.

M3440
- Reorder point considered only with reorder point or time-phased planning ?The SAP error message M3440 indicates that the reorder point is only considered in specific planning scenarios, specifically when using reorder point planning or time-phased planning. This message typically arises in the context of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) when the system is unable to apply reorder point planning due to the configuration or settings of the material.
Cause:
The error message M3440 can occur due to several reasons:
Planning Type: The material may not be set up for reorder point planning. If the planning type is not configured to use reorder point planning, the system will not consider the reorder point.
Material Master Settings: The material master record may not have the necessary settings for reorder point planning. This includes missing or incorrect values in fields such as reorder point, safety stock, or planning strategy.
MRP Type: The MRP type assigned to the material may not support reorder point planning. For example, if the MRP type is set to "PD" (MRP), it may not consider reorder points unless specifically configured.
Planning Parameters: The planning parameters in the MRP settings may not be correctly defined, leading to the system not recognizing the reorder point.
Solution:
To resolve the M3440 error, you can take the following steps:
Check Material Master:
- Go to the material master record (transaction code MM03) and check the MRP views.
- Ensure that the reorder point is set correctly in the MRP view.
- Verify that the MRP type is appropriate for reorder point planning (e.g., "VB" for reorder point planning).
Review MRP Type:
- If the MRP type is not suitable, consider changing it to one that supports reorder point planning.
- You can change the MRP type in the material master (transaction code MM02).
Check Planning Strategy:
- Ensure that the planning strategy assigned to the material allows for reorder point planning.
- You may need to adjust the planning strategy in the material master.
MRP Configuration:
- Review the MRP configuration settings in the system (transaction code SPRO) to ensure that the settings for reorder point planning are correctly defined.
Run MRP:
- After making the necessary changes, run the MRP again to see if the error persists.
Related Information:
Transaction Codes:
Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for detailed information on MRP types, planning strategies, and material master settings.
SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address specific issues related to M3440 or provide additional guidance.
By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the M3440 error and ensure that reorder point planning is functioning correctly for the affected materials.
