  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

You have entered an alternative unit of measure which, when converted
to the base unit of measure, would be too long to fit into the
    corresponding field.
    Example
You define <LS>G</> as the base unit of measure, <LS>KG</> as the first
alternative unit of measure, and <LS>TO</> as the second alternative
unit of measure. According to the table, 1,000 g = 1 kg, and 1,000 kg =
    1 t. As a result, 1,000,000 g equals 1 t, but this value is too long to
    fit into the corresponding field.

    System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message M3027 - & cannot be used as alt. unit since resulting unit would be too long ?

The SAP error message M3027 typically indicates that there is an issue with the unit of measure (UoM) configuration in the system. Specifically, the error message "cannot be used as alt. unit since resulting unit would be too long" suggests that the alternative unit of measure you are trying to set up or use is resulting in a unit that exceeds the allowed length or format defined in the system.

    Cause:

    1. Unit of Measure Configuration: The alternative unit of measure you are trying to use may not be properly configured in the system, or it may be incompatible with the primary unit of measure.
    2. Length Restrictions: SAP has certain restrictions on the length of unit of measure codes. If the resulting unit of measure exceeds these limits, you will encounter this error.
    3. Decimal Places: The number of decimal places defined for the unit of measure may not be compatible with the primary unit of measure.
    4. Unit of Measure Group: The unit of measure may not belong to the same group as the primary unit of measure, leading to incompatibility.

    Solution:

    1. Check Unit of Measure Configuration:

      • Go to the transaction code CUNI (Unit of Measure Conversion) and verify the configuration of the units involved.
      • Ensure that the alternative unit of measure is correctly defined and does not exceed the length restrictions.
    2. Review Length Restrictions:

      • Check the maximum length allowed for unit of measure codes in your SAP system. Typically, the length should not exceed 3 characters for standard units.
      • If the alternative unit of measure is too long, consider using a shorter code or a different unit.
    3. Adjust Decimal Places:

      • Ensure that the decimal places for the alternative unit of measure are compatible with the primary unit of measure. You can adjust this in the unit of measure settings.
    4. Unit of Measure Group:

      • Verify that both the primary and alternative units of measure belong to the same unit of measure group. If they do not, you may need to adjust the configuration.
    5. Testing:

      • After making the necessary adjustments, test the configuration by trying to use the alternative unit of measure again to see if the error persists.
