  • What causes this issue?

The <ZK>GENERAL</> audit area is a general audit area with special
    runtime logic.
Within an <ZK>available policy category</>, the GENERAL audit area and
another audit area cannot be <ZK>active</> at the same time. Either only
the GENERAL audit area can have the <ZK>active</> status or one or more
other audit areas. (This is not valid for the ILM object SN_META.
SN_META can be assigned to all audit areas without any restrictions.)

Setting the status of audit areas other than the GENERAL to <ZK>active
    </> is not possible.

    How to fix this error?

If you want to use special audit areas for a <ZK>permitted policy
category</>, you must first set the GENERAL audit area to <ZK>not active
    </>.
You can then set the status of other audit areas to <ZK>active</>.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message LRM018 - ILM object type &1 already active for GENERAL audit area ?

The SAP error message LRM018 indicates that an Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) object type is already active for a specific audit area, in this case, the "GENERAL" audit area. This error typically arises when there is an attempt to activate an ILM object type that is already in use or has been activated previously.

    Cause:

The primary cause of this error is that the ILM object type you are trying to activate is already active for the specified audit area. This can happen if:

    • The object type was previously activated and not deactivated.
    • There is an attempt to activate the same object type multiple times without deactivating it first.

    Solution:

To resolve the LRM018 error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Current Status:

      • Use transaction code ILM_OBJECT to check the status of the ILM object type for the GENERAL audit area. This will help you confirm whether it is indeed active.
    2. Deactivate if Necessary:

      • If you find that the object type is active and you need to make changes or re-activate it, you may need to deactivate it first. This can typically be done in the same ILM_OBJECT transaction or through the relevant ILM configuration settings.
    3. Re-activate:

      • After deactivating, you can attempt to activate the ILM object type again.
    4. Consult Documentation:

      • If you are unsure about the implications of deactivating an ILM object type, consult the SAP documentation or your organization's ILM policy to ensure compliance with data retention and management policies.
    5. Check for Dependencies:

      • Ensure that there are no dependencies or other configurations that might be affected by deactivating the ILM object type.

    Related Information:

    • ILM (Information Lifecycle Management): This is a framework in SAP that helps manage data throughout its lifecycle, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Audit Areas: These are specific categories or domains within ILM that define how data is managed and retained.
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as ILM_OBJECT, ILM_AUDIT, and others that may help in managing ILM configurations.

If the issue persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP Basis or ILM administrator for further assistance, as they may have additional insights or access to system logs that can help diagnose the problem.
