Message text: Return transfers to stor.types with strategy P only to source storage bin
Complete removal is in effect for the <GL:storage_type>storage type</>
from which you want to remove stock. Since the destination storage type
cannot keep a partial quantity, the system attempts to create a return
item for the remaining material.
Stock placement strategy "P" was defined for the selected storage type.
This is only possible if the system was configured using the customizing
application so that the source storage bin is the same as the
destination storage bin (to return stock to the same bin).
If you entered the storage type manually, select another return storage
type.
Otherwise, contact your system administrator for assistance in
correcting this error using the customizing application.
Maintain the storage type table.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

L3189
- Return transfers to stor.types with strategy P only to source storage bin ?The SAP error message L3189 indicates that there is an issue with return transfers to storage types that are configured with a specific putaway strategy (in this case, "P" for "Putaway"). This error typically arises when the system is trying to process a return transfer but is unable to do so because the storage type is restricted to only allow movements to the source storage bin.
Cause:
- Storage Type Configuration: The storage type in question is configured to only allow putaway to the source storage bin. This means that items can only be returned to the bin from which they were originally picked.
- Putaway Strategy: The putaway strategy "P" is designed to restrict movements to ensure that items are returned to their original location, which may not be suitable for the current return transfer scenario.
- Return Transfer Process: The return transfer process may not be correctly set up to handle the specific storage type or the items being returned.
Solution:
- Check Storage Type Settings: Review the configuration of the storage type in question. Ensure that it is set up correctly for return transfers. You may need to adjust the settings to allow for more flexibility in where items can be returned.
- Adjust Putaway Strategy: If the putaway strategy is too restrictive, consider modifying it to allow for returns to other storage bins if that aligns with your warehouse processes.
- Review Return Transfer Process: Ensure that the return transfer process is correctly configured in your SAP system. This includes checking the movement types and ensuring that they are compatible with the storage type and strategy.
- Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on configuring storage types and putaway strategies.
- Testing: After making changes, conduct tests to ensure that the return transfer process works as expected without triggering the error message.
