  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message KN138 - No objects were found for the selection criteria ?

The SAP error message KN138 ("No objects were found for the selection criteria") typically occurs when a user attempts to execute a transaction or report that requires specific selection criteria, but the system cannot find any data that matches those criteria. This can happen in various contexts, such as when working with customer master data, vendor master data, or other related objects.

    Causes:

    1. Incorrect Selection Criteria: The most common cause is that the selection criteria entered do not match any existing records in the database. This could be due to typos, incorrect date ranges, or other filters that are too restrictive.

    2. Data Not Yet Created: The data you are trying to access may not have been created yet. For example, if you are looking for customer records, there may be no customers created that meet your criteria.

    3. Authorization Issues: Sometimes, the user may not have the necessary authorizations to view certain records, leading to the impression that no records exist.

    4. Data Deletion: The records you are trying to access may have been deleted or archived.

    5. Selection Screen Settings: The settings on the selection screen may be configured in a way that excludes certain records.

    Solutions:

    1. Review Selection Criteria: Double-check the selection criteria you have entered. Ensure that there are no typos and that the criteria are broad enough to include potential matches.

    2. Check Data Existence: Verify that the data you are trying to access actually exists in the system. You can do this by using broader search criteria or checking in the relevant master data tables.

    3. Authorization Check: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to view the data. You may need to contact your SAP security team to verify your access rights.

    4. Consult with IT Support: If you suspect that records have been deleted or archived, consult with your IT support team to check the status of the data.

    5. Adjust Selection Screen Settings: If applicable, review the settings on the selection screen to ensure that they are not overly restrictive.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Depending on the context, you may be using different transaction codes (e.g., XD03 for customer display, MK03 for vendor display).
    • Tables: Familiarize yourself with the relevant tables (e.g., KNA1 for customer master data, LFA1 for vendor master data) to understand where the data is stored.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to the error message KN138.
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help files for guidance on the specific transaction or report you are using.
