  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message KD053 - More than one distribution rule; maintain using settlement rule only ?

The SAP error message KD053 ("More than one distribution rule; maintain using settlement rule only") typically occurs in the context of controlling (CO) when you are trying to settle costs from a cost object (like an internal order or a project) that has multiple distribution rules defined. This situation arises when the system detects that there are multiple distribution rules applicable to the cost object, which creates ambiguity in how costs should be allocated.

    Cause:

    1. Multiple Distribution Rules: The primary cause of this error is that the cost object has more than one distribution rule defined. This can happen if you have set up multiple rules for the same cost object or if the configuration allows for multiple rules to be applied.
    2. Settlement Configuration: The system is configured to use settlement rules for cost allocation, but it finds multiple distribution rules, which leads to confusion about which rule to apply.

    Solution:

To resolve the KD053 error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Distribution Rules:

      • Go to the transaction code KOB1 (for internal orders) or CJI3 (for projects) to review the distribution rules associated with the cost object.
      • Identify and analyze the distribution rules that are defined.
    2. Maintain Settlement Rules:

      • If you need to maintain the distribution rules, you should do so through the settlement rule instead. You can access the settlement rule configuration via transaction code KO02 (for internal orders) or CJ02 (for projects).
      • Ensure that you have a single, clear settlement rule defined for the cost object.
    3. Remove Redundant Distribution Rules:

      • If you find that there are unnecessary or redundant distribution rules, consider removing or consolidating them to ensure that only one distribution rule is active.
    4. Test the Changes:

      • After making the necessary adjustments, try to execute the settlement process again to see if the error persists.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:
