Message text: Hierarchy & for characteristic & does not contain a node &
On the initial screen you wanted to replace a hierarchy node variable
with the value &V3&. However, the hierarchy &V1& for characteristic
&V2& does not contain this node.
Caution: It could be that the characteristic value of the hierarchy
node is still coupled with a different characterisitic value. This can
lead to the following effect:
Example: The "Cost center" characteristic is coupled with the
"Controlling area" characteristic; the independent characteristic
"Controlling area" exists in the general selections of the planning
layout as a fixed value or a variable. The current value of the
independent characteristic "Controlling area" is now "0001". In the
hierarchy you can find a coupled value "00020000004711", where "0002"
is the controlling area and "0000004711" is the cost center. If this
value is selected, the system gives the value "0001" a higher priority
and tries to find the value "00010000004711" in the hierarchy.
This can lead to the current message.
The entry is not accepted by the system.
Use the input help to get a selection of possible hierarchy nodes
offered by the system. When selecting the hierarchy node, ensure that
the independent characteristic is suitable for the characteristic value
of the independent characteristic in the general selection.

- Hierarchy & for characteristic & does not contain a node & ?The SAP error message K9090 typically indicates that there is an issue with a characteristic hierarchy in the context of controlling (CO) or profitability analysis (CO-PA). Specifically, it suggests that the system is unable to find a node in the specified hierarchy for the characteristic you are working with.
Cause:
- Missing Node: The characteristic you are trying to use does not have a corresponding node in the hierarchy. This could happen if the hierarchy has not been properly defined or if the node has been deleted or not activated.
- Incorrect Hierarchy Assignment: The characteristic may not be correctly assigned to the hierarchy you are trying to use.
- Data Inconsistency: There may be inconsistencies in the data, such as missing entries or incorrect configurations in the hierarchy setup.
- Authorization Issues: Sometimes, the user may not have the necessary authorizations to access certain nodes in the hierarchy.
Solution:
- Check Hierarchy Definition: Go to the hierarchy maintenance transaction (e.g., KAH1 for creating a hierarchy) and verify that the node for the characteristic exists. If it does not, you may need to create it.
- Verify Characteristic Assignment: Ensure that the characteristic is correctly assigned to the hierarchy. You can check this in the characteristic settings.
- Rebuild Hierarchy: If the hierarchy is corrupted or not functioning as expected, consider rebuilding it or reactivating it.
- Check Authorizations: Ensure that the user has the necessary authorizations to access the hierarchy and its nodes. This can be checked in the user roles and profiles.
- Consult Documentation: Review SAP documentation or help resources for specific details related to the hierarchy and characteristic you are working with.
