Message text: Measurement reading transfer for measuring point & defined recursively
During the copying of <DS:GLOS.measurement_reading>measurement readings
</> or <DS:GLOS.counter_reading_difference>counter reading differences
</> to other <DS:GLOS.measuring_point>measuring points</>, the system
has determined that the measurement reading transfer is recursive for
measuring point &V1&.
If the error occurred when entering a measurement document, processing
will not be continued. The data entered cannot be saved.
If the error occurred when generating a list display, this message is
simply an information message.
Call up master data maintenance for measuring point &V1& and call up
the <LS>Additional Data</> screen from the <LS>General Data</> screen.
The field <LS>MR transfer from</> (IMPT-TRANS) contains the measuring
point from which measurement readings or counter reading differences
should be received. Double-click on this field to call up the
associated master record. Repeat this procedure to check the copying
chain. In the present case, the chain has been defined in such a way
that measuring point &V1& would indirectly receive measurement readings
or counter reading differences from itself (recursiveness). This would
not make sense and is therefore not permitted by the system.

IR164
- Measurement reading transfer for measuring point & defined recursively ?The SAP error message IR164 indicates that there is an issue with the measurement reading transfer for a measuring point that has been defined recursively. This typically occurs in the context of SAP's Plant Maintenance (PM) or Utilities (IS-U) modules, where measurement points are used to track consumption or production data.
Cause:
The error message IR164 is usually caused by one of the following issues:
Recursive Definition: The measuring point is defined in such a way that it references itself or creates a circular reference with other measuring points. This can happen if the configuration of the measuring points is not set up correctly.
Incorrect Configuration: There may be an issue with the configuration of the measuring point or the measurement document that is being processed. This could include incorrect settings in the master data or in the measurement reading transfer process.
Data Integrity Issues: There may be inconsistencies or errors in the underlying data that prevent the system from processing the measurement readings correctly.
Solution:
To resolve the IR164 error, you can take the following steps:
Check Measuring Point Configuration:
- Go to the configuration of the measuring point in the SAP system.
- Ensure that there are no recursive definitions. Each measuring point should reference other points correctly without creating a loop.
Review Measurement Documents:
- Check the measurement documents associated with the measuring point. Ensure that they are correctly defined and do not reference the same measuring point recursively.
Data Consistency Check:
- Run data consistency checks to identify any issues with the measurement point data. This can help you find and correct any inconsistencies.
Consult Documentation:
- Review SAP documentation or notes related to measurement points and the specific error message. There may be specific guidelines or patches available that address this issue.
Contact SAP Support:
- If the issue persists after checking the configuration and data, consider reaching out to SAP support for further assistance. They may provide additional insights or solutions based on the specific details of your system.
