  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message IR148 - Measuring point &2 locked by user &1 -> Structure changes not possible ?

The SAP error message IR148 indicates that a measuring point is locked by a specific user, which prevents any structural changes from being made to that measuring point. This can occur in various scenarios, such as when a user is currently editing or processing data related to that measuring point.

    Cause:

    1. User Lock: The measuring point is currently being accessed or modified by another user, which results in a lock on that measuring point.
    2. Transaction in Progress: A transaction that involves the measuring point is still in progress, preventing changes.
    3. System Lock: The system may have a lock due to background jobs or processes that are currently running.

    Solution:

    1. Identify the Locking User: Check which user is locking the measuring point. You can do this by using transaction code SM12 to view the lock entries. Look for the specific measuring point and the user who has it locked.

    2. Wait for Release: If the lock is due to a user currently working on the measuring point, you may need to wait until they finish their work and release the lock.

    3. Contact the User: If you identify the user who has the lock, you can contact them to see if they can release the lock or finish their transaction.

    4. Force Release (if necessary): If the lock is not being released and you have the necessary authorizations, you can manually delete the lock entry in SM12. However, this should be done with caution, as it may lead to data inconsistencies if the user is still working on the measuring point.

    5. Check Background Jobs: If the lock is due to a background job, you can check the job status using transaction SM37. If the job is stuck or not needed, you may consider terminating it.

    6. Review System Configuration: If this issue occurs frequently, it may be worth reviewing the system configuration and user access to ensure that locks are managed effectively.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:

      • SM12: Display and manage lock entries.
      • SM37: Monitor background jobs.
      • SE11: Data dictionary to check the structure of the measuring point.
    • User Roles and Authorizations: Ensure that users have the appropriate roles and authorizations to access and modify measuring points without causing unnecessary locks.

    • Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or support notes related to measuring points and locks for more detailed guidance.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the IR148 error and make the necessary changes to the measuring point.
