Message type: E = Error
Message class: GS - Sets
Message number: 001
Message text: Overlapping intervals or identical values have occurred
You have created or changed a set. The set contains a value more than
once, although the set definition specifies that this is not allowed.
The system does not allow you to create or change the set.
Either correct the set so that it does not contain any value more than
once, or change your settings so that a value can occur more than once
in the set (in other words, deselect the ambiguity check in the header
screen for set maintenance).
If you cannot find the multiple occurrences of values in this set,
first permit multiple occurrences of a value and save the set. You can
then carry out an ambiguity check (by choosing "Utilities -> Ambiguity
check") which will show you the values that occur more than once,
together with their path.

GS001
- Overlapping intervals or identical values have occurred ?The SAP error message GS001, which states "Overlapping intervals or identical values have occurred," typically arises in the context of time management or scheduling within SAP systems, particularly in modules like SAP HCM (Human Capital Management) or SAP SuccessFactors. This error indicates that there are conflicting time intervals or duplicate entries in the data being processed.
Causes:
Overlapping Time Intervals: This occurs when two or more time entries for the same employee overlap. For example, if an employee is scheduled to work from 9 AM to 5 PM and another entry exists for the same employee from 1 PM to 3 PM, this will trigger the error.
Identical Values: This can happen when there are duplicate entries for the same time period for an employee. For instance, if an employee has two records for the same date and time, the system will flag this as an error.
Incorrect Data Entry: Manual data entry errors can lead to overlapping intervals or identical values, especially if the data is not validated before being saved.
Configuration Issues: Sometimes, the configuration settings in the system may not allow for certain types of overlapping entries, leading to this error.
Solutions:
Review Time Entries: Check the time entries for the employee in question. Look for overlapping periods or duplicate entries and correct them. Ensure that each time entry is unique and does not overlap with another.
Data Validation: Implement data validation checks before saving time entries. This can help catch overlapping intervals or duplicates before they cause an error.
Use Reports: Utilize SAP reports to identify overlapping time entries or duplicates. Reports can help in auditing and cleaning up the data.
Adjust Configuration: If the error is due to configuration settings, consult with your SAP administrator or functional consultant to adjust the settings to allow for the necessary time entries without conflicts.
Training and Guidelines: Provide training for users who enter time data to ensure they understand how to avoid creating overlapping intervals or duplicates.
