  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message G3592 - Effective until period (&1) is less than effective from period (&2) ?

The SAP error message G3592 indicates that there is a discrepancy in the effective date ranges for a particular record, typically in the context of master data or configuration settings. Specifically, it means that the "Effective until" date is earlier than the "Effective from" date, which is logically incorrect.

    Cause:

This error usually occurs in scenarios such as:

    • When maintaining master data (e.g., material master, vendor master, etc.) where date ranges are defined.
    • When there is an attempt to create or modify a record with overlapping or conflicting date ranges.
    • Data inconsistencies due to incorrect manual entries or data migration issues.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check the Dates: Review the effective dates for the record in question. Ensure that the "Effective until" date is later than or equal to the "Effective from" date.

    2. Correct the Data: If you find that the dates are incorrect, update the record to correct the effective dates. This may involve:

      • Changing the "Effective until" date to a later date.
      • Adjusting the "Effective from" date to an earlier date if appropriate.
    3. Review Related Records: If the record is part of a larger set of data (e.g., multiple records for the same entity), ensure that all related records have consistent date ranges.

    4. Data Migration Checks: If this error arose during a data migration process, review the migration logic to ensure that date ranges are being set correctly.

    5. Consult Documentation: If you are unsure about the correct date ranges, refer to the relevant SAP documentation or consult with a functional consultant who specializes in the area you are working on.

    6. Testing: After making the necessary corrections, test the changes to ensure that the error no longer occurs and that the data behaves as expected.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Depending on the context, you may be using transaction codes like MM01 (Create Material), MM02 (Change Material), or others related to master data maintenance.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to this error message.
    • User Authorization: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to make changes to the records in question.
