  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message G01561 - Characteristic value with fixed value in BCat in set &1 is not unique ?

The SAP error message G01561 indicates that there is a problem with the uniqueness of characteristic values in a business context (BCat) set. This error typically arises in the context of SAP Variant Configuration (VC) or when working with characteristics in a classification system.

    Cause:

The error occurs when you attempt to create or modify a characteristic value that is supposed to have a fixed value in a BCat set, but the value is not unique. This means that there are multiple entries in the BCat set that have the same characteristic value, which violates the requirement for uniqueness.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check the BCat Set: Review the BCat set mentioned in the error message (indicated by &1). Look for the characteristic values that are defined within this set.

    2. Identify Duplicates: Identify any duplicate characteristic values that are causing the conflict. You can do this by filtering or sorting the entries in the BCat set.

    3. Modify or Remove Duplicates:

      • If you find duplicate entries, you can either modify them to ensure that each characteristic value is unique or remove the duplicates if they are not needed.
      • Ensure that the characteristic values that are supposed to be fixed are correctly defined and do not overlap with others.
    4. Check Dependencies: If the characteristic values are linked to other objects or dependencies, ensure that those relationships are also valid and do not create conflicts.

    5. Revalidate the BCat Set: After making the necessary changes, revalidate the BCat set to ensure that the error is resolved.

    6. Test the Configuration: Once the changes are made, test the configuration to ensure that it behaves as expected without triggering the error.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Documentation: Refer to the official SAP documentation for more details on handling characteristic values and BCat sets.
    • Transaction Codes: You may need to use transaction codes like CT04 (to maintain characteristics) or CU01 (to maintain configuration profiles) to make the necessary changes.
    • Support: If you are unable to resolve the issue, consider reaching out to your SAP support team or consulting with an SAP expert who specializes in Variant Configuration or classification.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the G01561 error and ensure that your characteristic values are unique within the specified BCat set.
