Message class: FCOM_PLANNING_CORE - Messages for Package FCOM_PLANNING_CORE
Message number: 125
Message text: Characteristic &1 is too long
Characteristic &V1& is one of the following:
Defined as a cost object or partner object in the parameters of planning
function &V2& of type 'Cost Simulation' (/ERP/SFIN_FT01)
Defined as 'GL Account Characteristic' in the parameters of the planning
function or it is
A block characteristic for the planning function
For all three cases, the field length of the characteristic must not
exceed a certain length. For cost object characteristics and partner
object characteristics the maximal field length is 60. For the GL
Account characteristic, the maximal field length is 10. Characteristics
longer than that are not supported.
If one of these characteristics is too long, an error message is
generated and processing of the planning function is aborted.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
The system aborts processing of the planning function.
Ensure that the aggregation level &V3& and the planning function &V2&
are defined correctly with respect to these restrictions. In particular
ensure that the "Cost Object Characteristics", the "Partner Object
Characteristics" and the "GL Account Characteristic" parameters are
maintained correctly in the parameters of the planning function.

FCOM_PLANNING_CORE125
- Characteristic &1 is too long ?The SAP error message FCOM_PLANNING_CORE125 indicates that a characteristic value you are trying to use in a planning scenario is too long. This typically occurs in the context of SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP) or SAP S/4HANA when dealing with characteristics in planning models.
Cause:
The error is caused by the characteristic value exceeding the maximum length defined for that characteristic in the system. Each characteristic in SAP has a predefined length, and if the value you are trying to input exceeds this length, the system will throw this error.
Solution:
To resolve this error, you can take the following steps:
Check Characteristic Definition:
- Go to the characteristic definition in the SAP system and check the maximum length allowed for the characteristic in question (denoted as &1 in the error message).
- You can do this by navigating to the relevant configuration area in SAP (e.g., transaction code
RSCUSTV10
for characteristics in BW or the relevant IBP configuration).Modify the Input Value:
- If the value you are trying to input exceeds the maximum length, you will need to shorten it. This may involve abbreviating the value or using a different representation that fits within the allowed length.
Adjust Characteristic Length (if applicable):
- If it is necessary for your business process to use longer values, you may consider adjusting the characteristic definition to allow for longer values. This typically requires administrative access and should be done with caution, as it may impact existing data and processes.
Data Validation:
- Implement data validation checks in your data entry processes to ensure that values do not exceed the defined lengths before they are submitted to the system.
Consult Documentation:
- Review SAP documentation or consult with your SAP support team for any specific guidelines or best practices related to the characteristics you are working with.
Related Information:
By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the FCOM_PLANNING_CORE125 error and continue with your planning activities in SAP.
